What makes a book odd?

Nothing. As a concept, there is nothing odd about a book (unless it's been left if a damp room for a little too long and has developed and odor. What books are is a wonderful escape to a different world. It doesn't matter what type of book you have in your hands, they all offer something different, something new, something exciting.

Stacks of books are lovely. What makes the books reviewed here odd? The randomness of the collection taken as a whole. The Escapist reviews books across genres, tastes, and complexities; the only thing we look for a good escape into pages densely packed with text. We have eclectic tastes and the oddness of our list of reviewed books will reflect that.

Our current reviewers are Sam and JD. JD bounces from historical non-fiction to popular fantasy to comics. Sam primarily focuses on fiction with brief stops in political non-fiction. Additional reviewers are welcome to contribute to the Escapist.

Reviewing books isn't an art form. Beautiful turns of phrases aren't meant for reviews, they belong to the books being read. At best, a review can be an argument for or against reading something. The Escapist is a site designed to help you make that choice. Not all of the reviews here are positive because presenting a disingenuous outlook on books doesn't help anyone. The reviewers do their best to read things that they think they'll like, but occasionally a real stinker will slip into the mix.

And now, on to the reviews.
